Reports on the abduction of schoolchildren in Kaduna dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the Kaduna government has hired a private negotiator to negotiate the release of 287 abducted pupils and teachers of the Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Chikun LGA of the state. The newspaper reports that the Nigeria Correctional Service said poor feeding can trigger violence in prisons.

The Nation reports that bandits are using abducted Kaduna pupils as human shields. The newspaper says a crisis is brewing in Iree community, Boripe LGA of Osun state, following the emergence of two kings.

The Guardian reports that President Bola Tinubu has asked security agencies to ensure the release of abducted internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno and students in Kaduna state. The newspaper says Muslim faithful in Nigeria may face challenging times during Ramadan owing to the rising prices of food items.

THISDAY reports that the activities of militia groups working as vigilantes for Katsina and Zamfara state governments have led to renewed hostilities in the two states. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that the federal government may not be able to stop more protests and looting of food trucks if the current economic situation is not addressed.
