Newspaper Headlines: Lamido, Wike camps reject consensus deal for PDP chairmanship

Reports on developments surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention dominate the cover pages of Nigerian dailies.

 

PUNCH reports that Abdullahi Sule, Nasarawa governor, says late President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded by some sycophants while in office. The newspaper says the endorsement of Tanimu Turaki as national chairman of the PDP has triggered opposition from allies of Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa, and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
ThisDay reports that Benedict Oramah, the outgoing president of the African Import and Export Bank (Afreximbank), says the organisation’s financial position grew almost eightfold from $6 billion in 2015 to $44 billion in 2025. The newspaper adds that the joint committee of the national assembly on constitution review has approved the creation of an additional state in the south-east.

The newspaper says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party (LP) are currently at loggerheads over the membership of Peter Obi, former presidential candidate.
