Newspaper Headlines: Mega churches, schools bar old naira note payment ahead of Jan 31 deadline

The controversy trailing the January 31 deadline stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the phase out of the old naira notes.

The Punch reports that some mega-churches, schools and retailers have set time limits for the collection of old naira notes ahead of the January 31 deadline. The newspaper says the tribunal will on Friday give judgement on the suit involving the victory of Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 2022 Osun governorship election.

 

The Nation says Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the PDP was colluding with saboteurs to create the lingering petrol scarcity. The newspaper reports that Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), processed and issued 9.31 million passports between 2015 and 2022.
