Newspaper Headlines: Military destroys over 100 illegal refinery sites in five months

Reports on the lingering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the ongoing coalition talks, dominate the frontpages.

 

The Punch reports that the conflict between the factions of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has intensified the crisis in the PDP. Over 200,000 more candidates scored above the 200 average mark in the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) after the recent resit organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB), the newspaper says.
Daily Trust reports that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, met with northern political leaders on Sunday as the coalition talks intensified. The newspaper says the shutdown of the Port Harcourt refinery by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has continued to generate angry reactions from industry stakeholders and analysts.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Wike has withdrawn from all reconciliation deals in the PDP.
