Newspaper Headlines: NAF kills over 400 bandits in Zamfara forest air raid

Developments around Comfort Emmanson, the irate Ibom Air passenger; and the detention of Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC); dominate the headlines. 

The Guardian reports that Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit to October 2. The newspaper adds that Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, has dissolved the state’s executive council.
The PUNCH reports that the Ogun government has removed the seal on Gbenga Daniel’s Sagamu GRA home, following indications of impending legal action against Dapo Abiodun, governor of the state. The newspaper adds that the federal government has arraigned five suspects over their alleged involvement in the murder of over 40 worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo state.
Daily Trust reports that the World Bank has approved $300 million to fund a new project aimed at improving access to services and economic opportunities for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and their host communities in northern Nigeria. The newspaper says Boko Haram insurgents have killed three soldiers and abducted a female schoolgirl during an attack on Kirawa town in Gwoza LGA of Borno.
Blueprint newspaper reports that the Nigerian Air Force, under Operation Fasan Yamma, has killed several armed bandits in Zamfara during coordinated air and ground strikes on Makakkari forest. The paper adds that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has intercepted 16 containers of prohibited items valued at N10 billion at the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) in Apapa.
New Telegraph reports that Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of nepotism and marginalisation of other political constituencies. The paper also adds that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a travel advisory for passengers flying to and from the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos.
Vanguard reports that a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of Emmanson, the passenger who assaulted airline officials on an Ibom Air flight inbound Lagos from Uyo, until October 6. The newspaper adds that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, says Nigeria and Argentina faced similar economic challenges over the past two years but one has emerged stronger.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Obi has faulted the arraignment of Emmanson. The newspaper adds that Muhammad Ali Pate, coordinating minister of health and social welfare, says Nigeria’s health sector is mostly domestically funded, with external sources contributing less than 10 percent.
The Nation reports that Israeli air strikes have killed seven people, including five Al Jazeera journalists, outside the main gate of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital. The paper says Tambuwal is currently being quizzed by the EFCC in Abuja.
