Reports on the hike in the pump price of petrol and the planned review of the cash palliative by the presidency, permeate the front pages of the dailies today.

The Punch reports that organised labour has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the handling of the removal of petrol subsidy, as the product hits N630 per litre. The newspaper reports that Tinubu has made a U-turn on the proposed disbursement of N8,000 as cash palliative.

The Nation says Tinubu has ordered immediate release of grains and fertilisers to 50 million farmers and households. The newspaper reports that Mele Kyari, the group chief executive officer (CEO) of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), said market forces are driving the price of petrol.

THISDAY reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened that it may be forced to withdraw from the dialogue with the federal government over the palliative to cushion the effect of the withdrawal of petrol subsidy. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied rumours that Tinubu had a phone conversation with Olukayode Ariwoola, the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), over the ongoing case at the presidential election petition tribunal.

Vanguard reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has asked Nigerians to stop eating meat from sick animals over the outbreak of anthrax disease. The newspaper says the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) has dropped hint of the planned suspension of foreign scholarships for two years due to the high exchange rate.

Daily Independent reports that a federal high court in Abuja has refused to extend its interim order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from prosecuting Hudu Yunusa-Ari, suspended Adamawa state resident electoral commissioner (REC). The house of representatives has resolved to probe the appointments undertaken by federal ministries, departments and agencies between 2015 and 2023.
