Reports on the political crisis in Rivers state suffuse the front pages today.

The Punch reports that the presidency has asked Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, to retire from politics following his criticism of the supreme court judgment upholding the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February election. The newspaper says the federal government has approved N2.2 trillion supplementary budget.

The Nation says there is crisis in Rivers following the move by the state house of assembly to impeach Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state. The newspaper reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has refused to make public documents relating to Tinubu.

Daily Trust reports that the diplomatic row between Nigeria and United Arab Emirates (UAE) lingers despite Tinubu’s visit to the county seven weeks ago. The newspaper says governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today hold an emergency meeting over the impeachment threat against Fubara.

Daily Independent reports that Alex Otti, governor of Abia, said the state government found 20 headless bodies and countless human skeletons around Lokpanta cattle market. The newspaper says Ben Nwabueze, pioneer secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo socio-cultural group, is dead.

The Guardian reports that the federal government has asked for more time to fix the nation’s electricity challenges as 17 generation and distribution licences are due for revocation or renewal tomorrow. The newspaper says the Rivers house of assembly has split into two factions with two speakers.
