Newspaper Headlines: Northern group buys N40m PDP presidential form for Atiku

The disclosure of the Debt Management Office (DMO) that Nigeria’s public debt stock has hit N39.56 trillion dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that DMO said Nigeria borrowed N6.64 trillion and serviced debt with N2.93 trillion in 2021. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently battling court injunctions in the race to conduct the March 26 national convention.

Daily Independent says airline operators and marketers are yet to agree on a new price for aviation fuel. The newspaper reports that Wille Obiano, former governor of Anambra, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Lagos airport — some hours after attending Chukwuma Soludo’s inauguration.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that Tony Elumelu, chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), lamented the worsening living conditions of Nigerians. The newspaper says the federal government is set to issue a new policy on the trade relations with former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) countries following the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Daily Sun reports that a north-east group has obtained expression of interest and nomination forms for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been sworn in as governor of Anambra, the newspaper says.

The Guardian reports that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has led to the rise in the prices of wheat. The newspaper says the APC caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee (CECPC) may have sacked John Akpanudoedehe as secretary.
