Newspaper Headlines: NPC proposes N532.7bn for 2023 census

News reports on the victory of eight Nigerians in the US midterm polls dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation says Mele Kyari, group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has raised the alarm over threat to his life by oil thieves in the country. The newspaper reports that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has promised to revive the Lake Chad basin and fight insecurity.

The Punch says controversy has trailed the alleged attack on the convoy of Atiku by suspected thugs in Maiduguri, Borno state. The newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 23 staff members in Kwara state will be prosecuted over “illegal registration”.

Daily Trust reports that eight Nigerians have won midterm elections in some positions in the United States. The newspaper says the National Population Commission (NPC) has disclosed that it will need N532.7 billion to conduct census in April 2023.

 

THISDAY reports that Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, said aggrieved PDP governors are still open to reconciling with party leaders over the crisis in the PDP. The newspaper says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, said Benue will return to being Nigeria’s food basket if elected president.

The Guardian says experts have raised concerns over the capacity of the federal government to partly fund the deficit in the proposed 2023 budget with sale of some national assets. The newspaper reports that Ifeanyi Ararume, a former senator, has sued President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly removing him wrongfully as NNPC board chairman.
