Newspaper Headlines: Over 70 airlines have collapsed in Nigeria and more to go, says AON

The country’s rising inflation rate, hike in cost of aviation fuel and diesel, and the erratic electricity supply dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that three governors nominated for the vice-presidential slot are expected to face a screening panel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today. Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) said over 70 airlines have collapsed in Nigeria in the past few years and three more may collapse in the coming weeks, the newspaper says.
The Nation says there is anxiety in the PDP over the choice of running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate. The newspaper says the price of aviation fuel has risen to N717 per litre.
The Guardian reports that rising cost of food items has pushed the country’s inflation to 17.7 percent. The newspaper says the World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued an advisory on vaccines for monkeypox.

Daily Trust reports that Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserve dropped by $2.9 billion within eight months. The newspaper says the Kano state house of assembly has approved N10 billion for closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
