Newspaper Headlines: Passengers stranded as scarcity of aviation fuel hits airlines

The power outage being experienced across the country owing to the collapse of the national grid dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Nigerians are battling power outages as the national electricity grid suffered a system collapse. The newspaper says the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its strike to May.

Daily Independent says airlines have threatened to shut down over scarcity of aviation fuel. The newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked political parties to obey court orders and electoral guidelines.

The Guardian reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has perfected plans to wean banks off the historical risk and cost of cash management. The newspaper says Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, and his Rivers state counterpart, Nyesom Wike are at loggerheads.

The Nigerian Tribune says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) will intervene in the scarcity of aviation fuel being suffered by airline operators in the country. Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, has said it is the responsibility of states to create local governments, the newspaper reports.

The Nation reports that there is anxiety among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members over the zoning of the 2023 presidential ticket. The newspaper says airline operators may get permit to import aviation fuel into the country.
