The reactions to the signing of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) into law by President Muhammadu Buhari dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says petrol may sell for N300 as the just-signed PIB provides that market forces should be allowed to determine the price of petrol. The Nigeria Customs Service said the country’s subsidised petrol is being smuggled out to as far as Mali, the newspaper says.

Daily Independent says knocks and kudos have greeted the signing of PIB into law by Buhari. The newspaper reports six people were killed as gunmen attacked oil workers in Imo.

Nigerian Tribune reports that cholera is now in 23 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) as 1,178 deaths have been recorded. The newspaper says five power blocs in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are battling to control the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The Nation reports that the federal government has opened the bid for the concession of terminals of four major international airports. Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, said the 2022 budget will be funded with a N4.9 trillion loan, the newspaper says.

The Guardian reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has raised the alarm over fake COVID-19 vaccines as the federal government receives more doses of vaccines. The newspaper says the suspended sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) still grounded commercial activities in the south-east.
