Newspaper Headlines: Reps to probe privatisation, concession of 22 food silos

Reports on the planned investigation of N30 trillion ways and means, naira depreciation and food crisis, permeate the front pages today. 

The Punch reports that the senate is set to investigate the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari over the N30 trillion ways and means secured from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The newspaper says the federal government is planning to raise $10 billion to improve liquidity in the foreign exchange market.

The Guardian reports that the depreciation of the naira has defied the intervention of the federal government and fuelled inflation in the country. The newspaper says Vice-President Kashim Shettima has blamed saboteurs working to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu, for the food crisis in the country.


Daily Trust reports that naira traded at N1,900 to a dollar and N2,250 to a pound at the parallel market. The newspaper says the bill for the establishment of state police has passed second reading.

THISDAY reports that the federal government has declared war on currency speculation in its effort to stem the crisis in the foreign exchange market. The newspaper says the house of representatives has asked its committees on agricultural production and services, and privatisation, commercialisation of public assets and special duties, to investigate the privatisation of 22 out of 33 government silos.
