Newspaper Headlines: Russia-Ukraine war may prolong petrol scarcity in Nigeria as oil vessels face delay

The persistence of fuel scarcity across the country and how the Russia-Ukraine war may affect the importation of petrol into Nigeria appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that fuel scarcity may persist owing to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine as oil vessels coming into Nigeria from the warring region and its adjoining areas are likely to face some delay. The newspaper says the national assembly has excluded state police from the amendment to the 1999 constitution.
The Nation reports that the release of the timeline for the 2023 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has caused anxiety in the major political parties in the country. The newspaper says Romania and Hungary have granted Nigerians stranded in Ukraine visa-free access to their countries.
The Guardian says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has failed in its demand and promises on petrol supply owing to the persistent fuel scarcity in the country. The newspaper reports that the national assembly has been asked not to amend section 84 of the new electoral act of 2022 as requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Daily Independent reports that Nigeria’s foreign debt may hinder commercial banks from raising additional capital to remain in business. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said sanctions are no longer effective against coups in Africa, the newspaper says.
Daily Sun reports that experts have warned that Nigeria may lose the multi-billion petro-dollar accruals from the recent crude oil price volatility. Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has said the outcome of the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will shock Nigerians, the newspaper says.
