Newspaper Headlines: Two suspected ISWAP members arrested in Lagos

Reports on security enhancement across the country ahead of the yuletide season, and developments surrounding the new tax laws, dominate today’s frontpages.

Blueprint reports that Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), has directed the nationwide deployment of police personnel and operational assets to guarantee public safety during the Christmas and New Year festivities. The newspaper says two suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were arrested in Lagos state on Sunday.
Guardian reports that the federal government is working towards introducing a new emergency passport, called the Single Travel Emergency Passport (STEP), to replace the Single Travel Emergency Certificate (STEC) by 2026. The paper adds that the federal government has introduced mandatory drug testing as a prerequisite for employment into the public service.
Daily Trust reports that the federal government has defended the planned January 2026 implementation of the new tax laws.
