The argument by Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, for states to start collecting value-added-tax, instead of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nigerian Tribune reports the comment of Wike over perceived injustice in the allocation of value-added-tax obtained from the state. The newspaper says the Zamfara state government has intercepted food and fuel supply meant for bandits.

The Punch says the squabble over the collection of value-added-tax continues as the FIRS has written to the national assembly over constitutional amendment. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have blamed Chris Ngige, minister of labour, for the prolonged strike.

Daily Independent says the federal government is set to boost the country’s economy and open opportunities with the deployment of 5G technology. The federal government has filed terrorism charges against two aides of Sunday Adeyemo, a youth leader, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, the newspaper reports.

The Nation says Lagos has joined Rivers in a raging battle over VAT collection. The newspaper says the federal executive council (FEC) has approved 5G technology policy.

Daily Sun reports that the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has expressed worry over the ravaging effect of Cholera in Nigeria. The newspaper says the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has asked Igbo leaders to tell President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu.
