No Nigerian fan will part with his money when the Super Eagles of Nigeria play the Falcons of Sudan on Wednesday, as admittance into the 60, 000-capacity Abuja national stadium will be free of charge.

The Africa champions were booed on arrival in Abuja after the shock 1-0 loss to Sudan in Khartoum at the weekend. Now, Tamuno Danagogo, sports minister, wants to compensate the long-suffering fans with a free ticket to cheer the team to victory.

“Nigerians have the right to be angry after seeing the Eagles lose the game against Sudan,” Danagogo said.

“But having expressed their displeasure at the Eagles showing, the fans must come out to support the team because we still have the chance to qualify.

“And these boys have the capacity to win. If we, as government do our part, the coaches do their part and the players do theirs, then the fans must do their part and that is the support the team needs. That is why we have decided to throw the gates open for everyone to come and watch.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had pegged gate fees at N200 and N3, 000 for the ‘popular’ stand and the covered area, respectively.
