NFF: Rwanda will play in Nigeria despite Ebola fears

NFF: Rwanda will play in Nigeria despite Ebola fears

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed as baseless, the hues and cries of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) over the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

FERWAFA had written to the Confederation of African football (CAF), expressing concerns over the virus and requesting to have their 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifier scheduled for Calabar on September 6 taken to another country out of fear of contracting Ebola.

However, Musa Amadu, the NFF secretary-general, branded FERWAFA plea as baseless.

“CAF will maintain the fixtures of all its matches over the African continent with the exception of three countries,” he told NAN.

“The countries are Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, because they have recorded a large number of Ebola Virus Disease cases.”

Amadu said preparation was already in progress to ensure Nigeria picks maximum points in Calabar.

He also said Rwanda’s case was an indication that some countries had already started looking for victory outside the pitch, using the Ebola scare as an excuse.
