The Chris Igbokwe Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on supporting vulnerable persons, says it has awarded Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) scholarships to 20 internally displaced persons (IDPs).

According to a statement on Monday, Chris Igbokwe, president of the foundation, said the selected IDPs are those living in Wasa community in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The IDPs are those who fled insurgency from their communities to Abuja.

Igbokwe said 10 females and 10 males from Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states were selected to study at Grand Plus College of Education in Ilorin, Kwara state.

He said the awardees will pursue careers in ICT, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and home economics.

Igbokwe also said the foundation had provided free skills acquisition training, food items, financial support, and generating set to power boreholes to 40 IDPs.

“Boko Haram attacks have led to massive internal displacement. More than 1.8 million Nigerians are displaced in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states, with the vast majority (nearly 1.5 million) located in Borno,” he said.

“You don’t have to be a politician to help the masses. We will continue to spread these philanthropic gestures to many Nigerians. As God gives us, we must extend the same to God because we are partnering with God.

“It is when there is peace that foreign direct investment can come for the benefit of all Nigerians.”

He called on Nigerians to assist IDPs living across camps with proper skills training, “so they would not be used as objects of national destabilisation”.
