NGO to honour Chioma Ajunwa, Anthony Ojukwu, Ikechukwu Amaechi on Saturday

Mbaise People’s Congress (MPC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), will hold its annual professionals’ get-together and distinguished achievers award event on Saturday. 

The event, with the theme “The University of Mbaise (Ejiri mara Mbaise) So long! How long?” is scheduled to be held at the Welcome Centre Hotels Lagos at 12 noon.

At the event, the organisation will honour and present awards to dignitaries like Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, Nigeria’s only individual Olympic gold medalist and the first black African woman to win a gold medal in a field event at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Others to be honoured include Anthony Ojukwu, executive secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (NHRC); Ikechukwu Amaechi, managing director and editor-in-chief of TheNiche newspaper; Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, a development specialist and advocate against domestic violence, founder and executive director of Project Alert.

Also, Joe Anosike, president general of Ezuruezu Mbaise — the apex Mbaise socio-cultural organisation; Cyril Anyanwu; Austin Onwubiko; Kelechi Deca Anyanwu, a journalist; Louis Alozie, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Emeka Ariguzo, a businessman will be recognised at the event.

Others are Andy Ndubuisi Eke, Justice Kenneth Amadi, Chibuzor Enwereuzor, Ken Njoku, Polycarp Nwoha, Valentine Ekechukwu, Ikechukwu Dozie, and Ezeji Alozie Aguwa.

The event will be chaired by Ben Ujoatuonu, managing director of Universal Insurance Plc, while Stanley Amuchie, executive director of Fidelity Bank, will be the special guest of honour.

The keynote speaker at the event is Valentine Ekechukwu, former dean of the faculty of engineering, at the University of Nigeria,

Nsukka Ikechukwu Dozie, the vice-chancellor of Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), will also deliver a paper.

The MPC distinguished professional achievement award is a local recognition accorded to indigenes of the Mbaise community, Imo, who have attained success in their respective fields.
