US rapper Nicki Minaj will be delivering remarks on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria at the United Nations.

Earlier this month, Mike Waltz, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, invited Minaj to visit him “for an in-depth discussion about what our administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world”.

On Sunday, journalist Eric Cortellessa reported on X that Waltz and Minaj will jointly deliver remarks early this week on the subject.

Responding to the post, Waltz confirmed the report and described Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice”.

“I’m grateful she’s leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria, and I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters,” he wrote.

Responding to Waltz, Minaj said she is grateful to be entrusted with an “opportunity of this magnitude”.

“I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know. The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose,” she said.

The scheduled appearance follows Minaj’s recent public support of Donald Trump after the US president announced that he would redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern”.

Trump cited allegations of a “Christian genocide” in the country, attributing the violence to radical Islamist groups.

The 12th-time Grammy-nominated star stated that no group should face persecution for their faith and urged her followers to beware of rising religious violence globally and to pray for those affected.
