Niger gov recovers from COVID-19 — after one week in isolation

Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger state, has recovered from COVID-19, one week after revealing that he had tested positive for the virus.

Bello had announced that he was positive on November 9, 2020.

“I have tested positive to COVID-19. However, I am asymptomatic and have gone into isolation,” he had said.

However, the governor disclosed that he had tested negative in a post on his Twitter handle on Monday.

“I am delighted to inform you that I have recovered from COVID-19. I thank you all for the prayers and kind wishes during this period,” he tweeted.

Bello joins the list of governors who have been infected with the coronavirus.

Other governors who have recovered from COVID-19 include,  Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta.

So far, as of November 15, a total of 286 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Niger, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The state has, however, recorded 264 recoveries, while 12 people have died.

Meanwhile, across Nigeria, over 65,000 people have tested positive for the virus, out of which more than 61,000 patients have recovered.
