The Niger government has set up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of Mohammed Ndayebo, former commissioner for information and strategy.

Ahmed Matane, secretary to the Niger state government, said this on Friday at a media briefing.

Ndayebo, who was also the chief press secretary to Muazu Aliyu, former governor of the state, died after an accident that occurred along the Minna-Suleja road on November 7.

Matane said the state received information on alleged unprofessional conduct when the former commissioner was taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna, the Niger capital.

“It was alleged that the late Ndayebo was brought to the hospital, with no single doctor on call to attend to him as a victim of an accident,” Matane said.

“The committee is to review the operations of IBB Specialist Hospital, identify any operational deficiencies, and make appropriate recommendations to enable the state government to take decisive actions.”

He also said the government is concerned about the alleged negligence exhibited by public hospitals while handling emergency cases, adding that the committee will investigate the allegation to prevent such situation in the future.

Meanwhile, another committee has been constituted to investigate the petition against Mohammed Etsu, chairman of Niger state board of internal revenue, over alleged misappropriation of funds.
