Nigeria ended its FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification on an unbeaten note, drawing 1-1 with Algeria on Friday night.

Having qualified for the football mundial in Russia, the Eagles went into the game bereft of pressure, as a loss would have made no impact in the overall scheme of things.

Nigeria had the majority of possession but lacked the final pass towards goal while Algeria looked dangerous on the break.

The Eagles squandered a few scoring opportunities in the first half. Anthony Nwakaeme missed a sitter from Kelechi Iheanacho’s free kick in the 16th minute while a 45th-minute volley by the striker went straight at Algeria’s goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi.

The Super Eagles went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

Within seconds of Algeria missing a scoring chance, John Ogu scored for Nigeria in the 61st minute.

Yacine Brahimi converted from the spot for the hosts’ equaliser in the 87th minute after Shehu Abdullahi fouled the Algerian captain in the 18-yard box.
