Nigeria drop two spots in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria drop two spots in latest FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped two places from 34th to 36th in the world based on FIFA’s latest rankings.

According to the list released on Thursday by the world football governing body, the three-time AFCON champions also maintained their fifth position on the continent.

Nigeria’s drop in the current global rating was due to the disappointment lost to the Central African Republic (CAR), which ranked outside the first 100 teams in the world, during the Qatar 2022 qualifier in Lagos earlier in October.

A late strike by Karl Maxence Namnganda ended the Super Eagles’ 17-year-old World Cup qualifiers’ unbeaten run. The Eagles, however, got their revenge after defeating CAR 2-0 in the return leg days after.

Senegal retained the first position in Africa and 20th in the world with 1,564 points, while Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles secured the 27th spot globally and second on the continent. Algeria and Morocco ranked 3rd and 4th respectively in Africa.

Liberia, Eagles’ next opponent in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying series, dropped six places from 144th to 150th, while Cape Verde moved up from 77th to 76th.

Belgium and Brazil maintained first and second places respectively, with France moving into the third spot.

Italy took the fourth spot, while England completed the top five.
