Nigeria ease past Algeria to qualify for U-17 Women’s World Cup

Flamingos of Nigeria

Flamingos of Nigeria have qualified for the 2025 U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The team booked the World Cup ticket despite a goalless draw against Algeria in the second leg of their final qualification round at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida on Friday.

Nigeria had thrashed the Algerians 4-0 in the first leg of the encounter a week ago at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne.

The Flamingos struggled to replicate their impressive performance in the return leg.

Regardless, the team remained steady at the back and controlled possession against the hosts, who were desperate to score and reduce the aggregate.

The Bankole Olowookere-led girls looked less coherent in attack, but the defensive solidity pulled the team through a lacklustre display.

Nigeria had defeated South Africa 5-1 on aggregate to reach the final round of qualifiers.
