Nigeria imported 31.69 million barrels of crude oil from the United States in seven months, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration.
According to the agency’s figures, imports occurred between February and August, with no US crude brought in during January.
In February, Nigeria imported 3.11 million barrels per day (bpd), followed by 5.25 million bpd in March, 2.03 million bpd in April, and 3.79 million bpd in May.
The country brought in 9.16 million bpd in June, and 4.16 million bpd in both July and August.

For comparison, Nigeria imported 15.79 million barrels of US crude between February and July 2024, with no imports recorded in January and August of that year.
Likewise, during the corresponding six-month period in 2025, imports totalled 27.52 million bpd — representing a 74.29 percent increase from the previous year.
The increase in US crude imports is said to be largely driven by purchases from the Dangote refinery.

In October, Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote refinery, said the plant currently imports about 10 million barrels of crude oil from the United States and other countries every month.
“Of course, as we speak today, we buy about 9 to 10 million barrels of crude monthly from the United States and other countries,” he said.
On March 25, Dangote refinery shipped six vessels carrying about 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel, also known as aviation fuel, to the US in March.
