The federal government has partnered with Google and Apolitical to launch the ‘Government AI Campus’, a global training initiative designed to equip Nigerian public servants with the skills to harness artificial intelligence (AI) for governance and service delivery.
The programme was launched in Abuja with a flagship leadership briefing for senior government officials on Thursday.
Supported by Google and implemented through the federal ministry of communications and digital economy (FMCIDE), the initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of public sector leaders to integrate AI in government operations and accelerate digital transformation.
The programme is expected to provide access to practical online training, expert-led sessions, and global peer learning opportunities.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, Bosun Tijani, minister of communications and digital economy, said AI is critical to improving government productivity and efficiency.
“We see Artificial Intelligence as a major driver of productivity across our key sectors,” Tijani said.

“We have been putting resources into ensuring that we can support our civil servants and public service so AI can become something native to them to accelerate how we administer our processes and deliver better services to our people.”
The minister said the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital economy agenda, which prioritises innovation, inclusion, and public sector efficiency.
Olumide Balogun, Google’s West Africa director, said the programme reflects Google’s commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation.
“Championing Nigeria’s digital transformation means investing in the people who shape its future,” he said.

On his part, Chris Ferguson, vice-president at Apolitical, said structured learning is key to unlocking AI’s potential in governance.
