The Super Falconets qualified for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup on Saturday following a 2-0 aggregate victory over Burundi in the second leg of the fourth-round qualifying tie at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

The Nigerian U20 female national team defeated Burundi 1-0, thanks to Opeyemi Ajakaye’s late goal — replicating the scoreline in the first-leg encounter in Dar es Salaam.

In the tough clash, Nigeria wasted a host of chances in both halves, with wayward finishing from Ajakaiye and Janet Akekoromowei.

The duo, however, combined for the solitary goal, with Ajakaiye scoring the winner in the 78 minute.

She scored again in the 90th minute but the strike was chalked off by the referee.

The Falconets are the first African side to book their place in the U20 World Cup which will be held later this year, with three more slots left.

The victory means Nigeria continue its record of not missing the U20 World Cup since its launch in 2002. The next edition will be held in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.
