Nigeria’s daily count of new coronavirus infections recorded a significant decline with only eight samples confirmed positive on Saturday.

The tally is the country’s lowest figure since May 16 when seven infections were reported.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new cases in its update for June 12, 2021.

The fresh COVID-19 infections were recorded in only two states — Akwa Ibom and Rivers with four positive samples each.

With six persons confirmed to have recovered from the infection on Saturday, a total of 163,436 people have now been discharged across the country.

The agency reported zero death from COVID-19 complications on Saturday, leaving the death toll at 2,177.

A total of 167,059 coronavirus cases have now confirmed across 36 states and the FCT.
