Nigeria win two gold medals in badminton at African School Games

Team Nigeria has won two gold medals in badminton at the ongoing African School Games in Annaba, Algeria. 

Precious Adekunle won Nigeria’s first gold medal in the tournament that commenced on July 26.

She showcased incredible skill and reflexes to defeat her Egyptian opponent in the girls’ singles final.

Then Edun Damilare added to the gold rush by claiming the boys’ singles title.

In a contest marked by determination and grit, Edun fought from start to finish to outclass his opponent, securing Nigeria’s second gold medal in the badminton event.

Earlier, Nigeria had won a silver medal in the women’s Basketball 3×3 after losing the final to Rwanda.

The first edition of the African School Games is billed to wrap on August 5. The tournament features student-athletes aged between 14 and 17.

Sixty athletes are representing Nigeria at 10 sports in the competition.

The sports are athletics, swimming, football, taekwondo, beach canoe, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, and table tennis.
