Frank Nweke II, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu, says thugs are threatening voters in the state.

The governorship candidate spoke on Saturday after voting at his polling unit in Nkwo market ward in Ozalla, Enugu.

Although he described the voting process as seamless at his polling unit, the APGA candidate alleged that thugs who claimed to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are intimidating voters in parts of the state.

He listed the affected areas to include Maryland, Abakpa, Nsukka, and Isi Uzo.

“It is regrettable that information reaching us from different parts of the state from our colleagues and party members has not been as savoury as one would have wished,” Nweke said.

“If you go to Maryland, there is a gentleman called Freedom Nnam, who has been identified as coordinating thugs who are intimidating and threatening people that they’d be harmed if they didn’t vote for the PDP.

“For me, there’s been a lot of security breaches. People are being attacked and voters are being intimidated by the PDP. That is what is it. The nation deserves to know what is going on in Enugu.

“In Nsukka, in spite of clear orders by the military high command that security services should be neutral, there are men in other ranks who have been compromised and who are working with the ruling party in the state.

“And they are intimidating and beating up people. One individual actually escaped being killed.

“The APGA house of assembly candidate, Chijioke Ezeugwu, was attacked this morning. Five polling units in his ward were cordoned off by the military and police. In Isi Uzo LGA, there are thugs quartered there by the PDP.”

Nweke, however, added that the matter has been escalated to the state director of the Department of State Services (DSS).
