Empty Cathedral of St. Michael, Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion) Kaduna
The Anglican Communion in Nigeria has reaffirmed its opposition to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) orientation.
Speaking at a recent gathering ahead of the second session of the church’s 12th Synod, Nneoyi Egbe, the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Calabar, said the position of the church in Nigeria aligns with that of the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), a coalition of Anglican provinces worldwide that reject same-sex issues.
NAN reports that the synod will be held from July 16 to 20 with the theme ‘Image which Thou hast Set Up’.
“God nor the Bible has not changed; so we are not changing on this matter of LGBTQ,” he said.

“We do not condemn them; in fact, we welcome them, but we tell them clearly what the Bible says. If they are willing to receive it and repent, that is okay. We love them.
“But our position as a church is that we don’t condone or tolerate LGBTQ in any way; marriage, according to God’s plan, is between a man and a woman. Nothing else.”
The bishop also highlighted the church’s investment in education, emphasising the goal of raising children who are intellectually balanced and morally upright.

Egbe argued that the decline in moral standards in schools is due to the government’s takeover of church-run institutions.
“Today, the churches have to reinvent their relevance by reopening church schools to bring back morals in our education,” he added.
