Nigerian delegate to AU summit robbed in S’Africa

Gabriel Gundo, a Nigerian delegate attending the 25th African Union summit in South Africa, was robbed in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Gundo was travelling from OR Tambo International Airport to to his hotel in Sandton, where the summit is being held, when he ran into the men, who were driving in a Hyundai car.

Lungelo Dlamini, a senior police officer, confirmed the report on Thursday, saying the robbers disguised as policemen.

According to South African police, the robbers produced Nigerian police identification and took $500 and R700 from Gundo.

Dlamini said the South Africa’s directorate for priority crime investigation, known as Hawks, is investigating the incident.

The 25th AU summit is being held at the Sandton Convention Center until June 15.

The crime rate in South Africa is very high.

On May 22, several delegates attending the Pan African Parliament in Johannesburg were robbed at gunpoint in their shuttle bus at the entrance to the Protea Hotel Midrand.
