De-Rabacon Plastics, the Nigerian social enterprise firm, was among the winners at the just concluded Youthconneckt Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda.

The firm, which was the only Nigerian outfit selected to pitch at the summit, snagged a second-place finish at the finals and a take-home prize of $2,000.

It is understood that the summit had over 2,000 applications from across Africa and over 500 from Nigeria.

De-Rabacon, owned by Yolo Bakumor Smith, addressed plastic pollution by transforming the items into interlocking bricks and household items as a sustainable way to reclaim the plastics from drainages, landfills, and ocean bodies.

About 60 per cent of De-Rabacon’s profit goes into social impact projects like training and empowerment of youth and women and has directly impacted the lives of over 2,000 persons to date.

The week-long summit featured several activities including learning, networking, dinners, concerts, and charting brilliant courses for youth across the continent.

TheCable understands that efforts are underway by the ministry of youth and sports development to establish the Youthconneckt Nigeria chapter.

The continental body’s vision is to connect the African youth for socio-economic transformation towards strengthening the empowerment ecosystem by equipping existing initiatives with technical and financial resources and knowledge sharing.
