Divine Oduduru, Nigerian sprinter, is breaking records and shining brightly in the US.

Oduduru has been named athlete of the week by the Big 12 Conference for his performance at the Texas Tech Open.

The athlete, who is known for his “I never espered it” expression, has broken five all-time records at the Texas Tech University.

He shattered the university’s 20-year old school record in the 200m indoors meet on Saturday.

Oduduru cleared out his previous 20.49 seconds school record with a new 20.18 mark, surpassing Trayvon Bromell on the NCAA all-time list as the third-fastest in US collegiate history.

Oduduru also set a new record of 6.64 seconds to top his previous time of 6.66 at the Texas Tech Open 60m dash.

His performance helped the Texas Tech men’s track & field program reach second-place in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association indoor rankings.

“Divine continues to impress us,” Wes Kittley, head coach of Texas Tech, said.

“He is a remarkable athlete, especially running that 20.18 in only his second indoor 200m race ever. We love to watch him race just as much as he loves racing.”

Oduduru was the gold medalist in both the 100m and 200m events at the 2013 African Youth Athletics championships.

He failed to qualify for the Rio Olympic 200 metres final, crashing out of the race after finishing seventh in the semi-final heat.
