Nigerian women overpower molesters in India, hand them over to police

Two Nigerian women beat molesters and handed them over to the police in the Indian city of Chennai on Tuesday.

According to The Times of India, the unnamed Nigerians are students of Loyola college and Madras Christian college in India.

They were reportedly walking to their rented accommodation when the two men accosted them and tried to molest them.

The women would not go down without a fight, rained blows on their assailants while screaming for help.

Their cries for help attracted people to the scene and on seeing this, the assailants tried to flee but the two women would not give up and gave chase.

Helped by a few passersby, they outran and overpowered the men before a police patrol team arrived the scene.

The two women sought the help of officials at the Nigerian embassy, saying they were set to leave for home soon after completing their studies.

Santhosh Haidmeni, Kancheepuram district superintendent of police, said the accused were in custody.

“We have the two accused with us and are questioning them; we are waiting for a formal complaint to draft our first information report (FIR),” he said.

“The police registered a case against the men under IPC 354 (a): assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty; 323: attack with hands; 294 (b): abusing and 506 (II): criminal intimidation, apart from Section 4 of Tamil Nadu women harassment prevention act.

“A magistrate court is set to send them to jail on Wednesday.”

There have been reported cases of rape in India, sometimes leading to the death of victims.
