Nigeria’s Enitan Oshodi elected as ITTF vice-president

Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi has been elected as the executive vice-president (VP) of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Oshodi’s appointment was announced at the annual general meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday in Houston, Texas, the United States of America.

He became the second Nigerian, after Segun George, to be elected into the table tennis world governing body.

Of the 136 votes cast, Oshodi secured 116 to defeat the 14 other candidates that vied for the position.

Petra Sorling of Sweden became the first woman to be elected as president of ITTF.

Sorling clinched the office unopposed having been nominated by the Swedish Table Tennis Association (STTA).

Egypt’s Alaa Meshref was re-elected into the executive committee (EC) of ITTF.

This is the first time two representatives of the ITTF’s committee will be coming from Africa.

The other elected vice presidents include; Graham Symons of Australia, Alaor Azevedo of Brazil, Liu Guoliang of China, Roland Natran of Hungary, Masahiro Maehara of Japan and Khalil Al-Mohannadi of Qatar.

Oshodi was the former chairman of Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSSTA).

He was also Lagos state commissioner for sports between 2011 and 2015.

He served as the president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) from 2013-2017 and was later appointed as the chairman of the nomination committee of ITTF.

Earlier this year, Oshodi was elected as the deputy president of African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF).
