Mansur Matazu, director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has called on the private sector to partner with the federal government in the area of infrastructural development.
Matazu, represented by Aliyu Sani, NiMet director of finance and accounts, spoke on Monday at the 2021 Brazil-Nigeria Aviation Trade Forum (AVIDEF 2021).
While highlighting the importance of prompt information on weather activities, he said investing in meteorology is critical for the growth of the country’s economy.
“Weather is a major challenge to achieving the distance development goals. We must therefore understand weather, adapt to it, mitigate it and if possible control it, and doing this requires partnership,” he said.
“Multiple stakeholders need to come together to meet up with the challenge. Public sector can’t do it alone. UN sustainable development agenda 2020 particularly emphasised on partnerships.
“If you partner with NiMet, be sure of return on investments in billions of naira; that I can assure you.”
Matazu also listed the key development areas where partnerships are needed to include: development agenda, weather service delivery, and public-private weather enterprise.
