Nine players of Ifeanyi Ubah FC have been handed a 12-match ban by the Nigerian Premier League (NPL) for attacking referees during a game.

Two officials of the football club were also handed a 19-match ban for the aforementioned offence.

The sanction is coming after the officials and players attacked Nakura Auwal, a referee, after King Osanga was sent off the pitch during a game in August.

The fracas got worse when Chidi Nwogu and Adrika Obiefuna, both officials of the football club, and six other players also attacked match officials.

The club was also fined $4,900 for the incident and ordered to pay $700 to each of the officials involved and to take care of any medical bills.

The team was also fined N1 million for pitch encroachment.

Stephen Eze and Adeleye Olamilekan, two of the nine players sanctioned, have played for Nigeria in the African Nations Championship.
