The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says 13 people have died in an accident involving two vehicles on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Ahmed Umar, sector commander of FRSC in Ogun state, had earlier said nine persons died on the scene of the accident.

In a subsequent update, Umar said four passengers later died while on the way to the hospital.

The sector commander said the accident involved 25 passengers and that 12 persons sustained injuries.

Umar said the accident occurred at about 3.45 pm around WichTech Company, near Danco petrol station.

He said the accident involved a commercial white Mazda bus, with registration number: APP 28 YE and a blue Volvo truck, with no number plate.

Umar said the accident was caused by speed violation and overloading on the part of the commercial bus driver.

He said the commercial bus lost control due to excessive speeding and rammed into the truck.

He said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue in Idera Hospital, Sagamu, while the survivors were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The sector commander said FRSC officials and other agencies had begun clearing the obstruction caused by the crash.
