‘Nine residents killed’ as gunmen attack Benue community

Nine people have been reportedly killed, following an attack on Agan community of Makurdi LGA, Benue state.

Catherine Anene, Benue police spokesperson, confirmed the attack.

According to NAN, Terkimbi Shom, a resident who witnessed the attack, said gunmen invaded the community on Friday.

He said that was the second time the community would experience such an attack by unknown gunmen within the past three weeks.

“These attacks are becoming too frequent. This is the second time in less than three weeks that the attackers launched attacks on our community,” he said.

“We hardly sleep well nowadays for fear of attacks.

“I appeal to the federal government to please send security operatives to our area to safeguard our lives as well as property.”

The latest incident is one of recent attacks on communities in Benue over the past weeks.

Earlier in May, unknown gunmen attacked some communities in Gwer west LGA of Benue state.

In April, three students were abducted from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) — the students were later released.

Also in April, 11 soldiers were killed by gunmen after troops came under attack while on a routine operational task in Konshisha LGA of Benue state.
