NIPCO Gas Limited says it has commissioned a compressed natural gas (CNG) facility in Oron, Akwa Ibom state.

CNG is a fuel that can be used in place of petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is used in traditional petrol/internal combustion engine automobiles or specifically manufactured vehicles.

In a statement on its official LinkedIn page, the company said the facility would support auto CNG requirements for daughter-booster stations in the south-south part of Nigeria.

“NIPCO Gas commissioned CNG Mother facility at Oron, Akwa Ibon State. This facility will support Auto CNG requirement for Daughter-Booster Stations in South-South part of Nigeria,” Nipco said.

“NIPCO Gas is expanding CNG Stations footprint across Nigeria in partnership with NNPC.”

On August 1, in a nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu said his administration had made provision to invest N100 billion to acquire 3,000 units of 20-seater buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

The national address came on the heels of widespread economic strain following the removal of the petrol subsidy, which quickly elicited a hike in petrol price and made commuting difficult as transportation became almost inaccessible.

On August 3, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited disclosed that it partnered with NIPCO Gas Limited for the construction of 35 CNG stations across the country.

According to NNPC, NIPCO Gas Limited was already operating 14 CNG stations across Nigeria and had converted over 7,000 vehicles to run on CNG.

The national oil firm also said NIPCO’s technical competency and field experience would bolster the initiative’s success and amplify its positive impact on the nation’s economy.
