NIS launches passport front office in Ikorodu, Lagos

The Nigeria Immigration Service has inaugurated a new passport office in Igbogbo community, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

Caroline Adepoju, the comptroller-general of NIS, unveiled the facility on Friday.

Adepoju assured Nigerians that their passports would be processed and issued within three weeks of submitting their applications.

She advised the public to ensure that they renew their passports six months before expiration to avoid problems while applying for visas.

“I thank the traditional ruler and the people of Igbogbo for their support and for ensuring the realisation of this project,” she said.

“This is my first assignment after my confirmation as the substantive comptroller-general of Nigeria Immigration Service.

“I want to advise the public to ensure they renew their passport six months before expiration to avoid being denied visa by some countries.”

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, said the new passport office would improve service delivery to Nigerians and save the people of Igbogbo and environs the stress of travelling far to obtain their passports.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by Ibrahim Layode, commissioner for home affairs, said the Igbogbo passport office is a testament to the federal government’s commitment to providing world-class immigration services.

The NIS had in January 2023 said it would need at least 15 passport offices in Lagos to cut the application waiting period.

So far, there are passport offices in the Ikoyi, Festac, Alausa, and Alimosho areas of the state.
