The Nizamiye Hospital Abuja has inaugurated a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory to carry out testing for COVID 19 and other medical cases such as HIV viral load, HVB, and HCV viral loads.

At the commissioning ceremony held at the hospital premises, Olorunnimbe Mamora, minister of state for health, said Nizamiye Hospital has displayed a strong commitment to contributing to the development of the health sector in Nigeria.

He said: “Testing is key towards our quest in curtailing the further spread of the coronavirus. Sometime last year, Nigeria could boast of only four molecular laboratories, but today, there are well over 140 molecular laboratories in the country.

“I commend the management of Nizamiye Hospital for taking the initiative of investing in a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory, which indeed stands out in terms of the quality of equipment and the organisational structure of the hospital. I, therefore, charge the management to continue to maintain standards at all times.”

Mohammed Yakubu, representative of the acting secretary for health, FCT, noted that Nizamiye Hospital’s molecular laboratory is a big boost in the testing capacity in the FCT.

“This addition is a welcome development and the FCT administration indeed commends the management of the hospital for this initiative,” Yakubu said.

In her remark, the chief medical director of the hospital, Yushua Alkali, thanked the federal ministry of health for the invaluable support over the years.

“As a private hospital, we decided to join hands with the federal government by establishing this laboratory that is fully equipped not just for COVID 19 testing, the laboratory also is equipped to carry out HIV viral load, HBV, DNA viral load as well as HCV viral load, amongst others,” Alkali said.

“This molecular laboratory is a one-stop center and we are proud of our modest achievements. We also thank the federal government of Nigeria, and the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as the Health and Human Services Secretariat of the FCT for all the support, extended to the hospital over the years.”
