The New Nigerian Development Company (NNDC) has commended Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, for his support towards the reform of the organisation.

Speaking on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, Lamis Dikko, NNDC chairman, said the governor’s “contributions have been critical, and they have not gone unnoticed”.

Lamis also appreciated the decision of the northern governors’ forum to embark on a comprehensive reform of NNDC.

“This bold initiative is aimed at restoring the company to the original vision and mission set by the founding fathers — visionaries such as the late Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto,” Lamis said.

The chairman said the company is committed to re-establishing itself as a symbol of economic pride in the region.

Lamis congratulated the state government on the recent ground breaking ceremony of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) project, noting that the initiative will accelerate rural development.

“We shall embark on the restructuring of the company, provide competent leadership and the required oversight of management so that NNDC will be restored as the catalyst of the region’s development,” he added.

“We are determined to create an enabling environment for our management and staff to deliver measurable results aligned with our key performance targets. Importantly, we will hold ourselves accountable — individually and collectively.

“We are confident that with progressive leaderships, Kaduna state — and indeed the entire Northern Region — will rise to new heights of prosperity, inclusion and sustainable growth.”

Hadiza Balarabe, deputy governor of Kaduna, said the state will tap from NNDC’s technical expertise from time to time.

Balarabe noted that several textile industries in the state are now moribund and that the state had tried to woo investors to revive some of them.
