The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has entered into a build, operate, and transfer agreement for the rehabilitation of pipelines and storage facilities across the country.

The NNPC disclosed this in a documentary seen by TheCable on Thursday.

Speaking on its achievements in 2023, the company said a 150 million litres storage facility was constructed for the Port Harcourt refinery ahead of the full operationalisation of the plant.

“Ahead of full operations, NNPC Limited has put in place a 150 million litres fully automated capacity at Atlas Cove. NNPC Limited also inked build, operate, and transfer agreement for the rehabilitation of pipelines and storage across the country,” the firm said.

On his part, Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of Port Harcourt refinery, said “the rehabilitation [of the plant] is so structured”.

“It is based on a very firm foundation that we knew from the beginning that it will deliver. We started this process by setting up a governance process to ensure that the rehabilitation is a success,” Onoja said.

NNPC, in May 2021, commenced rehabilitation work at the refinery in Rivers state.

On December 21, 2023, the company announced the completion of the mechanical phase of the turnaround maintenance at the facility.

“We shall from time to time visit to see the progress of work outside, and sooner than later we shall come on to commission the work,” Mele Kyari, NNPC’s group chief executive officer (GCEO), had said.

The national oil firm later said test runs at the refinery will be completed this month.
