The Kano state chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the house of representatives, over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision comes days after Jibrin hinted that he might defect from the NNPP.
“Anything can happen, I can leave NNPP and I can stay, and I can also return back to APC, PDP, ADC, PRP or anywhere I want,” Jibrin said.
”When I make decisions regarding that, people will know. It’s not surprising I did, and I told you, I am old enough to decide for myself.”

Speaking at a press briefing in Kano on Saturday, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, state chairman of NNPP, said the lawmaker had repeatedly launched media attacks against the party and its leadership.
Dungurawa described Jibrin as a “weak politician” who owes his electoral success to the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform rather than personal influence.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a member of the house of reps. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.

The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of defaulting in the payment of mandatory party dues, adding that the party will pursue legal action to recover the outstanding funds.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.
On speculations that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa said such a move would not diminish the NNPP’s strength, insisting that “politics is about groups and coalitions” and the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
