The Progressives Foundational Movement (PFM), a group in the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is jittery over the likely verdict of the court of appeal on the governorship election in Kano.

On September 20, the Kano governorship election petitions tribunal sacked Abba Yusuf of the NNPP as governor of the state and declared Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the winner of the poll.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Yusuf.

INEC declared Yusuf the winner of the election in March after he polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat Gawuna who scored 890,705 votes.

In a statement on Thursday, Aganaba Johnson, the group’s national coordinator, said NNPP is still in shock over the tribunal judgement that sacked the governor.

“The NNPP, which is still in shock and disbelief following the verdict of the election petition tribunal, is jittery over what will likely be the verdict at the appeal court,” the statement reads.

“The NNPP failed to make its case at the tribunal and is still blaming the second arm of government for its failures.

“Had the election petition tribunal verdict ruled in their favour, will they behave the same way as they are doing now?”

Yusuf, who is appealing the tribunal’s verdict, has since called for calm, describing the decision of the court as a “temporary setback”.
