The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) says critical decisions concerning the 2027 elections will be taken at its August 28 national executive council (NEC) meeting.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ladipo Johnson, national publicity secretary of the NNPP, said the NEC meeting will address several important issues, including upcoming congresses and the national convention, a review of recent by-elections, and plans for mass mobilisation and new member registration.

Johnson said the NEC meeting will also discuss ongoing constitutional reviews aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.

However, he dismissed speculation about the party’s stance ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that NNPP remains open to various political options aligned with its founding principles and national interest.

“Politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values,” he said.

He outlined three possible paths for the party: forming an alliance or coalition, contesting the election independently, or supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“So, to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as an individual entity, or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election,” he said.

“These three options will be discussed at our NEC meeting on the 28th of August 2025, and to this extent, we appeal to all our members to remain calm, as the ultimate decisions would be in the best interest of the people.”

He urged its members to remain calm and assured that the final decisions will prioritise the interests of the Nigerian people.

Meanwhile, NNPP called on members to actively participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and prepare for the upcoming nationwide mobilisation and membership drive.
